| Type | Description |

| Carbon | Black uncrystallized carbon. Most visible. |
| Feather | A tiny fracture or crack inside the stone. |
| Cloud | Cluster of pinpoints creating a hazy spot. |
| Needle | Long, thin crystal rod. Usually transparent. |
| Pinpoint | Tiny dot. VVS grades usually only have these. |
| Cavity | A surface opening/hole. Avoid these! |
