How to Measure Your Nostril Properly
To use this calculator effectively, you must measure the linear distance from your piercing hole to the edge of your nostril. Do not measure the curve of your nose!
- Step 1: Stand in front of a mirror with a standard ruler (mm).
- Step 2: Place the "0" mark exactly on your piercing hole.
- Step 3: Measure the distance to the bottom edge of your nostril.
- Step 4: If you measure 7mm, an 8mm hoop will be a comfortable fit. A 7mm hoop will be a "snug hug" fit.
Understanding Gauges (Thickness)
The gauge refers to how thick the metal wire is. Lower numbers = thicker wire.

Troubleshooting Common Fit Issues
🔴 Pinch Score: Too Tight
If the simulator shows "Red/Too Tight," your hoop diameter is smaller than your nostril distance. This is dangerous as it can cause the jewelry to embed into your skin, leading to infection or a "cheese-wire effect" where the jewelry slowly cuts through the nostril.
🟡 Pinch Score: Too Loose
If the ring is too large (e.g., wearing a 10mm hoop on a 6mm nostril), it provides a "boho" loose drape look. However, be careful during sleep or changing clothes, as loose hoops snag easily.
