Historically, Flieger (Pilot) watches like the Type A and Type B required massive luminosity for night missions. This is why our Pilot simulation shows fully lumed Arabic numerals. In contrast, Field watches often prioritize 24-hour markers which are painted but rarely lumed, focusing glow only on the 12/3/6/9 indices.
Standard paint (Super-Luminova) needs sunlight to charge and fades over hours. Tritium Gas Tubes (found in brands like Ball or Marathon) glow permanently for 25 years without charging, though they are often less intensely bright than freshly charged C3.
